Edwards Family Cemetery, Sparta, Alleghany County, North Carolina

Lat: 36° 31' 33"N, Lon: 81° 06' 46"W Contributed by Leanne C. Evans, Jan 14, 2007, last edited Feb 07, 2007 [leanne@rootdigger.net]. Total records = 20. To reach this cemetery from Sparta, take Independence Road north for about 1.5 miles, turn right onto Brookfield Road, and the cemetery is about .04 or so of a mile on the right. This cemetery is on private property, so it has no 911 address of it's own. It would be best to obtain permission to visit from the property owner. Inscription on the back of the grave marker for George and Leila Edwards, reads, "This one acre of land set aside in 1971, to be used for the benefit of this cemetery, by George and Leila Edwards, and is to remain in his name as owner, until the end of time when Jesus comes." The cemetery is a 1 acre fenced in lot next to a sort of tan colored vinyl siding house. I was unable to record the illegible stones. This is a complete record of all existing and legible headstone or marker readings as of Jan 12, 2007. - Leanne C.
